Gas station is an eyesore

To the Editor:

The abandoned gas station on Avenue A at the corner of 30th Street is a bizarre eyesore, to say the least.

Right next to Bayonne High, scores of students pass through its parking lot daily. The ice along with the rusting inoperable gas tanks with all of their health and safety hazards galore ought to make the promisers who never deliver at City Hall quite nervous indeed. The building’s windows have been completely smashed in and it is covered with grafitti.

At night, the building becomes an illicit parking lot. An unregistered Lincoln town car has remained there for three weeks. Those too lazy to park on the street take advantage of this bonanza. Others even have the nerve to park in the high school’s lot on 30th Street.

I have contacted City Hall several times and no one has even had the decency to respond. Who is the owner of this property, a summit multimillionaire who pays his politician buddies tiddlewink bribes for their inaction, or what?
